Jere Laukkanen holds a Senior Lecturer's position at the Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Department of Music (formerly Helsinki Polytechnic Stadia). He teaches or has taught the following subjects, a.o.:

Composition 1, 2; Arranging 1, 2; Copyright Systems, Agreements and Reports, Songwriting 1, 2; Rhythm Studies 1, 2; Ear Training 1, 2, 3, 4; Music Writing 1, 2; Music Analysis; Fundamentals of Music Transcription and Notation; Transcription 1, 2, 3; Jazz, Latin/African and Dance Music Transcription; Pop/Rock Arranging; Score Reading and the Study of Instruments; Jazz Workshop; Ensembles and Big Bands. Instruction can be given in either English or Finnish.

Jere Laukkanen has acted as Visiting Lecturer/Instructor at e.g. Berklee College of Music (Boston, USA), the IASJ International Association of Schools of Jazz conference in Freiburg Germany, Conservatori Liceu (Barcelona, Spain), Estonian Music and Theatre Academy, University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy (Estonia), Sibelius Academy, Aalto University, Imatra Big Band Summer Course, the Adulta Institute in Radio and Television (aRTO), and numerous Finnish music schools.

Jere Laukkanen is available for lectures, workshops or master classes under the following topics, a.o.:

Jazz Composition, Arranging, Songwriting, African-American Rhythm (general), Jazz Rhythm, Afro-Cuban Rhythm, Music Analysis and Writing, Ear Training and Sight Singing, Jazz Improvisation, Jazz Group, Big Band (Jazz Orchestra), Jazz History, Pop/jazz Music Pedagogics. Instruction can be given in either English or Finnish.

The duration of a lecture, workshop or master class can be anything between two hours and one week, depending of the scope and the desired contents of the chosen subject(s). All the presentations include lots of instructional material (either as PowerPoint presentations or transparencies), handouts and listening examples, and the workshops and master classes also include plenty of exercises or assignments to be handed out for the students.

Besides Metropolia University / Helsinki Polytechnic Stadia, Jere Laukkanen has acted as Visiting Teacher or Instructor at North Karelia University of Applied Sciences, Degree Programme in Music (2005-2006), the National Pop/jazz Music Summer Camp, Finland (1996-2003), Vantaa Pop/Jazz Music Summer Camp, Finland (1995-2001), Helsinki Pop & Jazz Conservatory (1993-2000), and at supplementary training courses organized by the Finnish Musicians' Union in 1994, 1997 and 2000.
